Personal Reflection
The Management Information Systems Class
The Management Information Systems class was quite the experience! I was astounded by the wealth of knowledge I gained from this program - it really opened my eyes to the intricacies of Management Information Systems research and provided me with hands-on experience in constructing actual, bonafide systems. The course covered a plethora of fascinating topics, ranging from the ins and outs of Computer and Information Systems (IS) to Software types, DBMS, Telecommunications, Systems Analysis and Design, Software Tools and Engineering, Design Supports, and even delved into International Information Systems Ethical and Social Issues.
I cannot stress enough how vital the material covered in this program is to the business world today. But that's not all - one of the most significant perks of this program was how it tied into all my other computer information systems courses. By learning the fundamentals and importance of Management Information Systems, I gained a better understanding and perspective of the field as a whole.
In this program, we were grouped together in teams of four to investigate and evaluate an Information System within an organization, and then provide recommendations and solutions based on our findings. My team and I chose the mighty and venerable UPS, an American multinational shipping, receiving, and supply chain management company. The task of developing a case study for this titan of an organization taught me an invaluable lesson in collaboration and communication with diverse personalities. In a nutshell, this program was an eye from a general view of technology!
